Cultural content in the film Ju Dou directed by Zhang Yimou

W niniejszej pracy omówiono szczególny typ tłumaczenia, jakim jest przekład audiowizualny. Celem pracy jest ukazanie złożoności przekładu treści kulturowych zawartych w filmie Ju Dou w reżyserii Zhanga Yimou. Teza pracy opiera się na stwierdzeniu, iż przekład elementów, które są obce kulturowo, jest powodem wielu trudności translatorskich, a także jest podporządkowany ograniczeniom spowodowanym specyfiką przekładu audiowizualnego. Poddane analizie fragmenty dialogów wybrane zostały z materiału językowego, pochodzącego z listy dialogowej filmu Ju Dou. Analiza wybranego materiału polegała na porównaniu wersji oryginalnej z listą dialogową przetłumaczoną na język polski. Materiały źródłowe wykorzystane w części teoretycznej tej pracy to specjalistyczne publikacje w języku polskim, angielskim oraz chińskim, dotyczące teorii tłumaczenia, przekładu audiowizualnego oraz przekładu elementów nacechowanych kulturowo. W Rozdziale I przedstawiona jest charakterystyka tłumaczenia audiowizualnego. Rozdział II dotyczy twórczości Zhanga Yimou, a także zawiera opis filmu Ju Dou. Przedstawiono problematykę przekładu kulturowego oraz analizę chińskich idiomów pojawiających się w filmie. W Rozdziale III znajduje się kulturowo-lingwistyczna analiza tłumaczenia przykładów wybranych z listy dialogowej filmu Ju Dou. Autorka pracy udowadnia tezę, że przełożenie fragmentów nacechowanych kulturowo na język polski to bardzo trudne i skomplikowane zadanie, a przekazanie treści kulturowych zawartych w warstwie wizualnej i dźwiękowej filmu, jest bardzo kłopotliwe, a czasem wręcz nierealne.

The following thesis discusses a particular type of translation, that is audiovisual translation. The aim of the thesis is to show the complexity of translation of cultural content in the film Ju Dou directed by Zhang Yimou. The thesis of the work is based on the statement that the translation of culturally-specific elements is the cause of many translational difficulties, and is subject to the limitations caused by the specificity of audiovisual translation. The analyzed fragments of the dialogues were selected from the language material from the dialogue list of the film Ju Dou. The study of the selected material was carried out by comparing the original version to a dialog list translated into Polish. The source materials used in the theoretical part of this work are professional publications in Polish, English and Chinese, on the theory of translation, audiovisual translation and translation of culturally-specific elements. Chapter I presents the characteristics of audiovisual translation. Chapter II discusses the output of Zhang Yimou, as well as the brief description of the film Ju Dou. The issues of cultural translation and analysis of Chinese idioms appearing in the film are presented. In Chapter III there is a cultural-linguistic analysis of the translation of examples selected from the dialogue list of the film Ju Dou. The analysis proves the thesis that translating culturally-specific elements into Chinese is a very difficult and complicated task, and the transfer of cultural content contained in the visual and sound layers of the film is very troublesome and sometimes even impossible.
