The significance of dreams in the Arabic culture

Praca bada zagadnienie znaczenia marzeń sennych oraz ich interpretacji w kulturze arabskiej. Pierwszy rozdział zawiera analizę stanowiska odnośnie znaczenia snów z perspektywy Koranu na podstawie fragmentów wybranych sur, omówienie przykładów z hadisów, następnie klasyfikację snów w islamie według ich pochodzenia i charakterystykę poszczególnych typów oraz ogólne stanowisko sufizmu. Druga część przedstawia genezę sztuki interpretacji snów w świecie arabskim, pozycję, jaką zajmuje wobec niej psychologia, a także rolę, jaką odgrywa pojawiająca się w snach postać Proroka Mahometa. Później prezentuje wykorzystanie technik interpretacji snów i ich wpływ na podejmowanie decyzji oraz nakreśla ich obraz w czasach współczesnych. Ostatni rozdział pracy poświęcony został miejscu snów w literaturze, przybliża więc najpopularniejsze i najbardziej istotne senniki.

The thesis examines the issue of the significance of dreams and their interpretation in the Arabic culture. The first chapter includes the analysis of the religion's outlook on dreams on the example of selected excerpts of Quran's suras, the discussion on the instances from the hadith, then the classification of dreams according to their origin, characteristics of different types of dreams and the general view of sufism. The second part introduces the genesis of dream interpretation in the Arabic world, the psychology's position towards it and the important part that the figure of Prophet Mohamed plays appearing in dreams. Next, it presents the use of different techniques of dream interpretation and their influence on decision making and depicts what it looks like presently. The last chapter of the thesis is dedicated to dream literature, so it brings closer the most important and popular dream books.
