The impact of China's soft power policies on the socio-economic development of the African continent

Praca koncentruje się na analizie chińskiej polityki soft power oraz jej wpływu na rozwój społeczny i ekonomiczny kontynentu afrykańskiego.Pierwszy rozdział przedstawia teorię soft power stworzoną przez Josepha S. Nye, zarysowuje jej założenia i problematykę. Omówione zostają także źródła soft power, ich interpretacja przez Josepha S. Nye oraz zastosowanie w stosunkach międzynarodowych. W rozdziale pierwszym zaprezentowana została, także ewolucja soft power w narracji ChRL, jej przeobrażenie w aktualną politykę zagraniczną, narzędzia i koncepcje charakterystyczne dla chińskiego obrazu soft power.Drugi rozdział prezentuje historię stosunków chińsko-afrykańskich od połowy XX wieku, koncentrując się na przejściu od rywalizacji Chin z ZSRR w rejonie Afryki, do podejścia nastawionego na współpracę z państwami kontynentu oraz wspólny wzrost. Ta część pracy koncentruje się także na wpływie gospodarczym i społecznym ChRL na Afrykę poprzez różnego rodzaju narzędzia, takie jak pożyczki, handel, inwestycje, wymiana kulturowa, czy też wspieranie rozwoju społecznego.Ostatni rozdział przedstawia pozytywne jak i negatywne aspekty wpływu chińskiego soft power na rozwój społeczny, ekonomiczny, jak i suwerenność państw kontynentu afrykańskiego, zarówno z perspektywy całych państw jak i samych obywateli.

The thesis aims to analyse China's soft power policy towards African countries and its impact on the social and economic development.The first chapter introduces the theory of soft power created by Joseph S. Nye, outlines its assumptions and issues. Sources of the soft power are discussed, their interpretation by Joseph S. Nye and their application in international relations. This chapter also presents the evolution of the soft power in the narrative of the PRC, its transformation into current foreign policy, and tools or concepts that are characteristic for the Chinese soft power.The second chapter presents the history of Sino-African relations since the mid-20th century. It focuses on the transition from China's rivalry with the USSR in the African region to an approach concentrated on cooperation with the continent's states and joint growth. This part of the work also focuses on the PRC's economic and social influence on Africa through various tools, such as loans, trade, investments, cultural exchange, and support for social development.The final chapter outlines the positive along with negative aspects of the impact of Chinese soft power on the social, economic development, as well as the sovereignty of countries on the African continent, both from the perspective of entire countries and the people themselves.
