The characteristics of neologisms in Hungarian translation of Stanisław Lem’s Cyberiada on the basis of the original text

Chociaż istnieje wiele sposobów opisywania metod przekładu, nie sposób zastosować je w odniesieniu do neologizmów. Według autora głównym celem tłumacza jest nie tyle znalezienie odpowiedniego ekwiwalentu dla neologizmu, co raczej skonstruowanie go na nowo, zwłaszcza jeśli chodzi o neologizmy artystyczne. Celem niniejszej pracy jest zaprezentowanie sposobów, jakimi posłużyła się Beatrix Murányi w tłumaczeniu na język węgierski neologizmów pochodzących z "Cyberiady" Stanisława Lema. Część teoretyczna niniejszej pracy zawiera krótkie objaśnienie terminu neologizm oraz jego rodzajów, po którym następuje charakterystyka stosowanych w języku polskim i węgierskim metod słowotwórczych. Kolejne rozdziały skupiają się na analizie reprezentatywnych przykładów neologizmów, które znajdujemy w Cyberiadzie i jej węgierskim przekładzie.

Although there are many ways of describing translation techniques, they are hardly useful in the case of neologisms. In the author’s opinion the main task of the translator is rather to re-create a new word than to simply find an accurate equivalent, especially as far as neologisms found in literary texts are concerned. The purpose of this thesis is to present the way Beatrix Murányi translated to Hungarian the neologisms found in Stanisław Lem’s Cyberiada.The theoretical part of this thesis contains a short explanation of the term neologism and its types, followed by the characteristics of word formation methods used in Polish and Hungarian. The subsequent chapters focus on the analysis of representative examples of the neologisms coming from Cyberiada and its Hungarian translation.
