Language barriers in using the Polish-language Internet experienced by learners of the Polish language

Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy były badania dotyczące barier językowych napotykanych przez uczących się w polskojęzycznym Internecie. Badanie miało na celu wskazanie (a) aspektów rejestru internetowego, z którymi uczący się mają styczność oraz wskazanie najbardziej kłopotliwych dla użytkowników, (b) określenie, jakie zależności występują pomiędzy trudnościami komunikacyjnymi a stopniem zaawansowania uczących się, częstotliwością korzystania z Sieci i komunikacji w języku polskim oraz (c) sprawdzenie preferowanego języka aplikacji – czy uczący się chętnie korzystają z aplikacji w języku polskim? Dane zostały zebrane za pomocą formularza, a następnie poddane analizie ilościowej. Wyniki wykazały spójność barier na wszystkich poziomach zaawansowania, wzrost średniej liczby czynników utrudniających zrozumienie komunikatu wraz ze wzrostem częstotliwości korzystania z Internetu. Ponadto rezultaty pokazały, że język Internetu był bardziej zrozumiały dla osób często i bardzo często komunikujących się w języku polskim. Równocześnie według omówionych wyników bardzo wysoki procent badanych nie posługiwał się aplikacjami w języku polskim, które mogłyby przybliżyć uczącym się charakterystykę internetowego rejestru językowego. Przedstawione badania potwierdziły istotność Internetu jako przestrzeni, po której poruszają się uczący się. Pokazały również, że obecny w niej rejestr języka bywa barierą komunikacyjną. Tym samym autorka uważa za zasadne wprowadzenie do procesu dydaktycznego tematów związanych z nieoficjalną komunikacją w Sieci z uwzględnieniem jej najbardziej problematycznych aspektów.

The subject of this study was research on language barriers encountered by learners on the Polish-language Internet. The study aimed to identify (a) aspects of the online registry that learners come into contact with and identify the most troublesome for users, (b) determine what connections exist between communication difficulties and the level of learners, the frequency of using the Web and communication in Polish, and (c) checking the preferred language of the application - are learners willing to use the application in Polish? The data was collected using a form and then subjected to quantitative analysis. The results showed consistency of barriers at all levels, an increase in the average number of factors hindering understanding of the message as the frequency of Internet use increases. In addition, the results showed that the Internet language was more understandable for people who communicate in Polish very often. At the same time, according to the results discussed, a very high percentage of respondents did not use Polish-language applications that could familiarize learners with the characteristics of the online language register. The presented research confirmed the importance of the Internet as a space in which learners move everyday. They also showed that the language register presented in it can be a communication barrier. Thus, the author considers it reasonable to introduce to the didactic process topics related to unofficial communication on the Web, taking into account its most problematic aspects.
