Henry VIII’s Tudor shaping relations with John Fisher and Thomas More in the light of lives of these saints

Praca ma na celu ukazanie relacji pomiędzy Henrykiem VIII Tudorem a Johnem Fisherem i Thomasem More. Do przedstawienia tych stosunków wykorzystane zostały żywoty świętych humanistów. Podjęto próbę ukazania zmienności relacji między nimi a monarchą. Poruszono kwestię Wielkiej Królewskiej Sprawy, przysięgi supremacyjnej i odmowy jej złożenia przez Fishera i More. W rozważaniach nad okolicznościami śmierci doradców angielskiego władcy, zastanowiono się nad możliwością jej uniknięcia, biorąc pod uwagę ówczesną mentalność, a także kondycję psychofizyczną suwerena.

This thesis aims at presenting the relations among Henry VIII Tudor with John Fisher and Thomas More. To show these terms, I use lives of saints of these humanists. I made an attempt to portray the fluidity of relationship among them and the monarch. I also raise the question of King’s Great Matter, Oath of Supremacy and the refusal to make the oath by Fisher and More. Considering the circumstances of their deaths, I reflect on possibility to avoid demise, taking notice of contemporaneous mentality and psychophysical condition of the sovereign.
