Moja praca magisterska dotyczy debiutu literackiego Roberto Saviano, książki zatytułowanej „Gomorra”, która odniosła niebywały sukces na światowym rynku wydawniczym.Pierwszy rozdział pracy poświęciłam historii camorry oraz literaturze dotyczącej tego tematu. Szczególną uwagę skupiłam na okresie od 2007 do 2012 roku, w związku z tym, iż publikacja „Gomorry” jest momentem przełomowym. Od 2006 roku pojawia się coraz więcej książek poświęconych mafii neapolitańskiej z gatunku non-fiction. W związku z tym, iż „Gomorra” jest reportażem literackim, w pierwszej części mojej pracy, nawiązuję również do historii samego gatunku oraz nurtów, które pozwoliły na jego narodziny – new journalism oraz non-fiction novel. Drugi rozdział mojej pracy przedstawia aspekty literackie „Gomorry”. Szczególną uwagę zwróciłam na pozycję reportera w tekście, gdyż jego obecność jest niezwykle ważna z punktu widzenia struktury książki. W ostatnim fragmencie, natomiast, dokonałam porównania „Gomorry” z książką Nanni Balestriniego „Sandokan. Storia di camorra”. W trzecim rozdziale skupiłam uwagę na osobie samego autora oraz innych czynnikach pozaliterackim, które przyczyniły się do sukcesu książki.

In my thesis, I analyzed the reasons why Roberto Saviano’s Gomorra becomes a literary phenomenon of astonishing proportions. The first part of my thesis is dedicated to the history of Italian camorra, which becomes a subject of many books starting from the nineteenth century. I focused on the period from 2007 to 2012, because in my opinion the Gomorra’s publication in 2006 is the turning point. Since then, more and more literary non-fiction books are dedicated to that subject. What is more, due to the fact that Gomorra is an example of literary reportage, in the first part of my thesis, I describe different features of the genre in regard to the new journalism and non-fiction novel. In the second chapter, I analyze literary aspects of Gomorra. I devoted particular attention to the role of the reporter which is very important regarding Gomorra’s structure. In addition, in the final section of this chapter I compare various characteristics of Gomorra to Sandokan. La storia di camorra written by Nanni Balestrini. The third part refers to Roberto Saviano and other extra-literary aspects that lead the book to success.

Fenomeno Gomorra è la tesi di laurea che analizza le cause che hanno portato al successo enorme del debutto letterario di Roberto Saviano. Il primo capitolo, intitolato Caso camorra, riguarda sia la storia della camorra che i testi dadicati a questo fenomeno. Mi concentro sull’arco temporale che va dal 2007 a 2012, dato che la pubblicazione di Gomorra costituisce un punto di svolta per quanto riguarda le pubblicazioni sul tema della camorra. Inoltre, in questa parte dedico ampio spazio alla teoria di reportage narrativo e i suoi antecedenti, new journalism and non-fiction novel. Il secondo capitolo, invece, affronta la questione dei valori letterari del libro che vengono analizzati nel contesto di reportage narrativo. Mi concentro soprattutto sulla posizione del reporter nel testo, dato che la sua presenza è fondamentale dal punto di visto della struttura del libro. L’ultima parte di questo capitolo è dedicata al libro di Nanni Balestrini intitolato Sandokan. La storia di camorra. Il terzo capitolo, infine, riguarda la figura di Roberto Saviano stesso, il cui fenomeno è nato insieme alla pubblicazione di Gomorra, e una serie di fattori extraletterari che hanno portato al successo del libro.
