The Turk. Farkas Kempelen and his legendary chess-playing machine

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest przedstawienie postaci węgierskiego wynalazcy Farkasa Kempelena oraz opisanie zasad działania jednego z jego wynalazków – Mechanicznego Turka, czyli automatu do gry w szachy. Oprócz biografii wynalazcy i zasad działania automatu szachowego, w pracy znajdziemy także opis zasad gry w szachy, który stanowi ciekawe uzupełnienie nawiązujące do tematu pracy. W pracy znajdziemy także przykłady z dziedziny filmu i literatury, kiedy to twórcy korzystali z motywu Mechanicznego Turka. Praca stanowi szczegółowy opis wyżej wymienionych komponentów poparty literaturą fachową z zakresu szachów oraz tematycznymi źródłami internetowymi.

This master's thesis aims to present the figure of the Hungarian inventor Farkas Kempelen and to describe the invention of Kempelen – the Turk (also known as a Mechanical Turk), which was a chess-playing machine. In addition to the biography of the inventor and the principles of the chess machine operation, the work also includes a description of the rules of chess, which is an interesting supplement referring to the topic of the work. The work also includes examples from the field of film and literature, when the authors used the motif of The Mechanical Turk. The work is a detailed description of the above-mentioned components supported by specialist chess literature and thematic internet sources.

A szakdolgozatom célja a Kempelen Farkas magyar feltaláló alakjának bemutatása és a Kempelen találmányának leírása – a „Török”, sakkautomata. A szakdolgozatomban a Kempelen életrajza és a sakkgép működésének elvei mellett a sakk szabályainak leírását is tartalmazza, amely érdekes kiegészítő a munka témájára. A szakdolgozatomban a film és az irodalom területéről is tartalmaz példákat, amikor az alkotók a „Török” motívumát használták. A szakdolgozatom a fent említett összetevők részletes leírása, amelyet a szakirodalom sakkról és tematikus internetes források támogatnak.
