Analysis of the influence that choreography and technology have on the American musical's evolution from the beginnings of the sound cinema to the first genres crisis.

Celem mojej pracy licencjackiej było wykazanie, że choreografia, jak również ciągły rozwój technologiczny odmieniły i wzniosły musical na wyżyny. Zaznaczam, jak te obszary wzajemnie na siebie wpłynęły. W pierwszym rozdziale przybliżam charakterystykę musicalu oraz sięgam do historii gatunku, który swoje początki miał w teatrze. W drugim rozdziale poświęcam dużo uwagi wpływowemu choreografowi Busby’emu Berkeleyowi. Zwracam również szczególną uwagę na ówczesne gwiazdy (Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly), mające inne podejście do gatunku oraz wyraźny wpływ na jego ewolucję. W trzecim rozdziale analizuję rozwój musicalu oraz wskazuję jak zmienił się na przestrzeni lat. Wreszcie czwarty rozdział poświęcam na podsumowanie swoich rozważań.

The aim of my BA thesis was to show that choreography, as well as continuous technological development changed and elevated the musical. I note how these areas influenced each other. In the first chapter I present the characteristics of the musical and go back to the history of the genre that had its origins in theater. In the second chapter I devote a lot of attention to the influential choreographer Busby Berkeley. I also pay special attention to the stars of that time (Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly) who had a different approach to the genre and a clear influence on its evolution. In the third chapter I analyze the development of the musical and show how it has changed over the years. Finally in the forth chapter I devote my attention to the conclusions of the thesis.
