W niniejszej pracy omówiono dane epidemiologiczne stawu Charcota, historię naturalną schorzenia, etiopatogenezę, zaburzenia, które należy brać pod uwagę w diagnostyce różnicowej, oraz objawy kliniczne. Przedstawiono badania umożliwiające zarówno rozpoznanie, jak i wybór sposobu leczenia. Próbowano także podkreślić cechy charakterystyczne i specyfikę tego schorzenia oraz fakt jego nierozpoznania lub rozpoznania na tyle późnego, że kończyna dolna może stracić swoje funkcje podporowe.

The paper reviews the epidemiology of Charcot joint, its natural history, etiopathogenesis, differential diagnosis and clinical symptoms. Diagnostic procedures and modes of treatment are also discussed. The paper also focuses on characteristic features and peculiarities of the disease as well as on the fact of its being overlooked or diagnosed late so that the lower limb may loose its supportive function.
