Celtic coinage in the Polish lands.

Celem niniejszego opracowania jest potwierdzenie tezy o lokalnym mennictwie celtyckim na ziemiach polskich. Pierwsze ślady wytwórczości menniczej Celtów na tym terenie datowane są na schyłek IV w. p. Chr. Wytwórczość ta rozwijała się prężnie aż do początku okresu wpływów rzymskich. Monety miały być wybijane w lokalnych warsztatach menniczych na terenie Górnego Śląska, Zachodniej Małopolski, Kujaw oraz okolic Kalisza. Bezpośrednim dowodem na istnienie mennictwa są znaleziska monet oraz zabytków identyfikowanych z formami menniczymi i półfabrykatami. Analiza tego rodzaju znalezisk będzie miała na celu uargumentowanie tezy o istnieniu lokalnego mennictwa Celtów na ziemiach polskich.

The main purpose of this study is to validate the thesis about local Celtic coinage in the area of Polish lands. First traces of the coinage manufacturing in this area are dated on the end of the IVth century B.C. This manufacturing was rapidly developing until the beginnings of Roman Period. The coins were to be struck in the local workshops on the areas of Upper Silesia, western Lesser Poland, Kujawy region and around Kalisz. The direct evidence for existence of the coinage are finds of coins and relicts identified as clay moulds for casting coin blanks and semi-finished products. The analyze of these kind of finds would have a purpose to show the righteousness about the theory of the existence of local Celtic coinage in the Polish lands.
