The article recalls two last productions created by Józef Szajna in the last decade of the twentieth century, the time in Polish theatre marked by significant changes: "Ślady" ("Traces", 1993) and "Deballage" (1997). The artist's dialogue with his own earlier visual aesthetics intended to simplify the forms of his creations not only in his theatre but in his happening ("Deballage", 1968) too. The article focuses on description of the scenography in the spectacles by Szajna mentioned above. The significant component was the material used to cover the stage and the performers and, at the same time, to provide numerous acoustic and visual impressions.
