"We’ll start a great plague of the idea" : the phantasm of the expansion of the French Revolution as exemplified by works of Bruno Jasieński

Przedmiotem tego artykułu są dwie, pokrewne sobie formy ekspansji rewolucji francuskiej i sposób, w jaki następnie ujawniły się one w twórczości Brunona Jasieńskiego. Pierwsza z nich, rozumiana mniej dosłownie, związana jest z formą dyskursywizacji wydarzeń. Zawłaszczanie przez rewolucję francuską wszystkich następujących po niej przewrotów stanowi pochodną przekonania o istnieniu jednej rewolucji, która swą tożsamość zachowuje we wszystkich przejawach. Rewolucja francuska zaważyła na formach opisu kolejnych wydarzeń i fikcyjnych buntów, co uwidacznia się w twórczości Jasieńskiego, od którego - jako komunisty - można by oczekiwać położenia nacisku na wydarzenia roku 1917 i opisów przewrotu zgodnych z doktryną historycznego materializmu. Rewolucja jednak prezentowana jest przez autora Palę Paryż nie tyle jako skomplikowany proces i kulminacja walki klas, co jako fantastyczna kontynuacja zdobycia Bastylii. Jasieński, odrzucając teorię walki klas na rzecz wyobrażenia rewolucji jako kataklizmu, jednocześnie powtarza osiemnastowieczny schemat myślowy, w ramach którego nastąpić ma druga z interesujących mnie ekspansji - szybkie i niemal automatyczne rozlanie się rewolucji z Paryża na cały świat.

This paper deals with two related forms of expansion of the French Revolution and the way they both manifest in works of Bruno Jasieński. The first one, less literal, is tied to the way the events were discoursified over the years. The appropriation of all of the next political overturns by the French Revolution stems from the belief that there is only one revolution which maintains its identity through all of its manifestations. French Revolution determined the way the future or fictional rebellions were presented and this phenomenon is very noticeable in works of Jasieński, who as a communist was supposed to focus on the events of 1917 and describe upheaval from the perspective of historical materialism. The revolution, though, is presented by the writer not as a complicated process or a climax of the class struggle but as a fantastic follow-up to the storming of the Bastille. Jasieński, who discards the theory of class struggle and chooses to present the revolution as a natural disaster, follows the 18th Century paradigm of the revolution spreading from Paris all over the world quickly and almost automatically.
