Information bubbles in the light of the information ecology

W pracy została podjęta próba scharakteryzowania zjawiska baniek informacyjnych w kontekście ekologii informacji. Perspektywa została poszerzona o zagadnienia odnoszące się do środowiska informacyjnego, które może stanowić fundament dla konstruowania się bańki informacyjnej, w której funkcjonuje człowiek. Omówiono rolę Internetu, ewolucję jego znaczenia, od momentu powstania aż po współczesne trendy i zjawiska, które kształtują codzienność wszelkich aktywności informacyjnych podejmowanych przez jednostki. W pracy podjęto próbę zdefiniowania bańki informacyjnej, rozpoznania jej genezy oraz procesów wpływających na powstawanie tego zjawiska. Wyjaśniono pojęcia pokrewne dla środowisk baniek informacyjnych oraz technologie, które umożliwiają formowanie się tych przestrzeni. Rozróżniono odmienne typy baniek informacyjnych na podstawie przestrzeni, w których mogą się one kształtować, a także scharakteryzowano zalety i wady kreowania się tego zjawiska. Cały kontekst i charakter baniek informacyjnych został finalnie ukazany na tle ekologii informacji. W podjętych badaniach zastosowano metodę analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa oraz zbadano wybraną grupę użytkowników za pomocą ankiety. Analiza miała za zadanie sprawdzenie świadomości istnienia baniek informacyjnych, wiedzy na temat tego zjawiska, jak i uzmysłowienie funkcjonowania w takich specyficznych środowiskach informacyjnych. Na podstawie wyników można wysnuć wnioski, że ankietowani studenci są świadomi tych zjawisk i podejmują konkretne działania by im zapobiec.

The paper attempts to characterize the phenomenon of information bubbles in the context of the ecology of information. The perspective has been extended to include issues related to the information environment, which may constitute the foundation for the formation of an information bubble in which a human being functions. The role of the Internet, the evolution of its meaning, from its inception to contemporary trends and phenomena that shape the everyday life of all information activities undertaken by individuals, was discussed. The paper attempts to define the information bubble, recognize its genesis and the processes influencing the formation of this phenomenon. Related concepts for bubble environments and the technologies that enable bubble formation are explained. Different types of information bubbles have been distinguished on the basis of the spaces in which they can form, and the advantages and disadvantages of creating this phenomenon have been characterized. The entire context and nature of information bubbles was finally presented against the background of the ecology of information. In the undertaken research, the method of analysis and criticism of the literature was used, and a selected group of users was examined by means of a questionnaire. The purpose of the analysis was to check the awareness of the existence of information bubbles, knowledge about this phenomenon, as well as to visualize the functioning in such specific information environments. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the surveyed students are aware of these phenomena and take specific measures to prevent them.
