| abstract in English: | Desire of wings that is Ḡāda as-Sammān on her journey from the far East to the distant West In her book Desire of Wings Ḡāda as-Sammān presents interesting aspects of existence and lifestyle of people from several countries of the Far East and the people of the United States. She identifies surprising curiosities of everyday life which can be untypical for the Arabian traveller. The writer travels to "celebrate life", she is attracted by things which are different and unusual in her environment and the spirit of adventure rushes her to get to know knew and extraordinary things. She describes dangerous travels by planes as well as feelings of passengers, their anxiety and relief after moments of dread. As-Sammān attempts to put not only literary but also historical and mental values to the book. She shows essential information about history and religion of the visited countries and describes ethnical diversity of their inhabitants. The writer’s travel to America has a different nature than her travel to the East. She declares that she does not go to the US with an intention to settle political accounts as an Arab aggrieved by American politics but with sincere curiosity and the need to get to know Americans. As-Sammān is delighted with the mentality of the American people and the thoughts she share are full of emotions. She tells about the kindness of the ordinary American but also about his ignorance resulting from the influence of many lobbies and media which are in the hands of lobbyists. Her texts contain a great number of descriptions of different cities and other wellknown places such as: Washington, New York, Las Vegas and Hollywood. |
