The author recalls various romantic representations of eternity in the context of
the aesthetics of sublimity - presenting the unpresentable, the incommensurability
of representation and a notion. She traces the manner in which eternity is
described in the writings of Bonaventura, Jean Paul, Novalis, Hugo, Coleridge,
Keats, Mácha, Mickiewicz, Słowacki, Krasiński. She wonders about the relation
between the negativeness of the description (which is always made by demonstrating
an absence) and a potential, nonobvious, excellence of the idea encapsulated
in the notion of eternity.
