dc.abstract.pl Şerafeddin Mağmumi (1869-1927), osmański lekarz i działacz polityczny jest autorem bardzo drobiazgowej, napisanej z dbałością o realia relacji z podróży po Europie, odbytej w 1899 roku. Liczące 465 stron dzieło jest jednym z ciekawszych osmańskich utworów opisujących Europę, a część poświęcona Rzymowi uznawana jest za zdecydowanie najlepszą wśród wszystkich osmańskich opisów Rzymu. Artykuł przedstawia sylwetkę autora i powody, dla których zmuszony był udać się na emigrację do Europy, po czym przedstawia główne tematy pojawiające się w jego relacji z Rzymu. Dzieło Şerafeddina, opublikowane po raz pierwszy w 1914 roku, było dla tureckich czytelników wartościowym źródłem wiedzy tak o dawnym Rzymie, jak i o współczesnej metropolii, a dzisiaj może być bezcennym dokumentem opisującym Rzym schyłku XIX wieku. pl
dc.abstract.en Şerafeddin Mağmumi (1869-1927), an Ottoman medical doctor and political activist, is the author of a most detailed account, written with attention paid to his surroundings; account of a tour around France and Italy taken in 1899. This 465-page work is one of the most interesting Ottoman works describing Europe, while the part devoted to Rome is considered to be by far the most impressive of all Ottoman descriptions of the Eternal City. The article portrays the author and discusses the reasons that forced him into emigration in Europe; after which a description of the main currents in his recollections from Rome is provided. Şerafeddin Mağmumi’s work, published for the first time in 1914, was, for Turkish readers, a valuable source of knowledge on the Rome of old as equally the contemporary metropolis, and today constitutes a priceless account of Rome at the end of the nineteenth century. pl
