An author in his study shows patriological background of pedagogy of national culture, scholarly terms in theory of patriotism and theory of patriotic education (formation, upbringing). An author is basing on theory of pedagogy of culture and on cultural understanding nation (ethnicity). He describes selected models of patriotism, especially Polish patriotism. He separates: 1) realistic patriotism and virtual (illusionary) patriotism, 2) certificated (licensed) patriotism and uncertificated (unlicensed) patriotism, 3) official patriotism and unofficial patriotism. He indicates (points at) the interdisciplinary nature of research on patriotism. He is proposing to collect the results of the various disciplines of the humanities research in the field of patriotism in the frame of new discipline – patriology (the studies about patriotism, the studies of Homeland), including its part – patriotology (the studies about patriots). He gives an example of the concept (idea) of Pope St. John Paul II as a possible basis for the development of the theory of patriotism and patriotic education. He indicates the realism and Christian personalism as the important perspectives in creating (developing) the theory of patriotism and patriotic education.
