dc.abstract.en A remainder of the nineteenth-century origins of literary comparative studies which were taking shape based upon the patterns provided by natural sciences particularly, the Cuvierian comparative anatomy and the works it has inspired. The appearance of literary comparative studies within the academy walls was accompanied by popularisation of the Goethean Weltliteratur which grew to become one of the essential notions in the new disciplinary lexicon. The author attempts at reconstructing the circumstances in which the said category was disseminated in the field of comparative studies; this provides a starting point for a future description of the dynamism with which literary comparative studies have been developing, along with a reinterpretation of the Weltliteratur idea as practised in the recent two decades. pl
