In a brief outline, this paper presents the philosophy of R.G. Collingwood in its anthropological aspect as successfully fi nding its way into our experience of the world, skeptical towards the positions of the old philosophical humanism. The paper points out the reasons which might prompt us to appreciate Collingwood’s phenomenology of human experience as it was introduced in his Speculum Mentis or the Map of Knowledge - to perceive it as in fact a project whose aim it was to examine the possible paths of rationality and to become a place where man builds a foundation for himself to live reasonably with others.
