Same gry także dojrzewają, podejmując
abstract in English:
Video games are probably the only contemporary media which exceed the prospects for development of its competition by a significant degree. This state of being can be attributed to an increasing number and th developing demographic structure of players as well as to the growth of the economic importance of the electronic entertainment industry. The games themselves become more mature as well, discussing matters previously specific to film or literature. Unfortunately, the aforementioned transformation has a negligible effect on the important issue, which is immutable, often sexist approach to femininity in video games (the issue of representation and the role of female characters). However, it turns out that the representation of female characters in games is not the only problem: the reactions of the gaming community to the attempts of eliminating gender stereotypes in the contexts of the medium also proves to be problematic (e.g. the GamerGate scandal).Bearing in mind the above-described phenomena, I decided to analyse selected discourses that have emerged on the Internet in response to: 1) introduction of a new hero into the Borderlands 2 named Ellie, 2) the evolution of the image of Lara Croft and 3) attempts to introduce women’s teams to the popular FIFA series. In netnographic study I analysed users comments on the selected websites, which were posted in response to those attempts of equalization of women in the world of video games, and a group of female players by using an on-line survey (women were rare on the analysed sites) .
