| abstract in Polish: | Artykuł dotyczy koncepcji pośrednika, zaproponowanej przez Stephena Greenblatta, a odczytanej w kontekście refleksji Bernharda Waldenfelsa na temat instancji "Trzeciego" i pokazanej na przykładzie komparatystycznego zestawienia dwóch powieści science fantasy: Świata Rocannona Ursuli K. Le Guin, który uznawany jest za sztandarowy przykład realizacji gatunkowej oraz czterotomowego dzieła Jarosława Grzędowicza Pan Lodowego Ogrodu. W obu utworach główni bohaterowie wchodzą w rolę pośredników, co pozwala wskazać na podobieństwa w zakresie fabuły, kreacji dwóch światów i łączącej ich symbolicznej "bramy". Jednak zasadniczą kwestią jest tożsamość, jaka kształtuje się w sferze intermonde, a wynika ze statusu pośrednika, który nie przynależy ani do świata, który porzucił, ani tym bardziej do tego, w którym ostatecznie się znalazł. |
| abstract in English: | The article presents an analysis of Stephen Greenblatt’s fi gure of the middleman read through the lenses of Bernhard Waldenfels’s notion of "the third" and attributed to a comparative reading of two science fantasy novels: Ursula K. Le Guin’s "Rocannon’s World", considered a hallmark of the genre, and Jarosław Grzędowicz’s tetralogy "The Lord of the Ice Garden". In both these works the protagonist engages in the role of a middleman, which allows for pointing at specifi c similarities in the storytelling, creation of the two worlds, and a symbolic "gate" between them. Nevertheless, it is the identity created within the sphere of the intermundium that remains here the most prominent issue, as it belongs neither to the world abandoned by "the third", nor to the one where "the third" fi nally fi nds him/herself. |
