The term "historical city" does not have a consistent definition, even though we use it often, even in matters relating to attractiveness to tourists. There are also no specific determinants that could indicate an indisputable way to classify specific urban centres as historic or not. Reasoning logically, each city (in fact, each town) has its own history, which con sequently became part of its heritage. It can therefore be argued that every city is historical, but intuition and experience allow us to conclude that some of them are more "historical" (Piccinato 1993). Which cities in this case belong to the category of "more historical"? Purchla (1997), in the introduction to the publication representing a synthesis of a number of international conferences, which took place in Krakow under the auspices of the International Cultural Centre, defines the essence of these cities. He states that these are the cities: "(...) where cultural heritage is not only determined by its contemporary shape, but is today on the one hand, the object of protection, on the other, the potential that should be sed for future development.
