Kompleks namiotów sułtańskich mieścił wszystko, czego władca potrzebował w pałacu. Służył prezentacji wielkości, przepychu i potęgi państwa w tym samym stopniu, co pałac.

Equally fascinating is the structure of the different types of tents, the different functions they served, and their roles in Ottoman life. Tents were widely used for military campaigns, ceremonies and celebrations, and country excursions by the sultans. Foreign observers of the Ottoman empire, including Poles, were impressed by its discipline and organisation. The sultan's tent complex included everything the sultan needed in his palace. It was as much a symbol of his power and splendour as the stone palace in the capital.
