abstract in English:
The author tries to track down the journey of a manuscript entitled Mémoire sur Waïhou ou l’Ile de Pâques, bearing information on the geology, nature and ethnography of the Easter Island, complemented by philosophical commentary and a glossary, decorated with maps and watercolour paintings, written at the end of the 18th century by Johann Reinhold Forster, a cosmopolitan natural scientist of German origin who took part in James Cook’s second voyage around the world. For whom was it intended? Why was it written in French? On April 30th, 1850, it was donated to the Königliche Bibliothek zu Berlin. After 1941, it was evacuated to the town of Fürstenstein (today’s Książ) and Grüssau (today’s Krzeszów). Since 1945 it belongs to the “Berlin collection” of the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow.
