The goal of this article is to show the perceptions and controversies arisen by the movie of Angelina Jolie. She is an American actress and also a Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). During her tenure at the UNHCR’s office she has met many victims of the Bosnian war. That is why she decided to make a movie about it, which was her directorial debut as well. Jolie envisages Bosnians as the sole victims of the war; that corresponded with the national opinion and the reaction was enthusiastic. On the other hand Serbs were portrayed as aggressors and the guilty ones – Jolie’s interpretation grated on them and they strongly objected to the movie. Given these facts, it appears to perpetuate the most popular stereotype about the Bosnian war, present mainly in the West. Generally, the film In the Land of Blood and Honey received negative reviews, even in Croatia. The only positive reviews came from the Bosnian side.
