abstract in English:
The printed “Psalmorum Davidicorum [...] Pars Secunda”, Danzig 1651 (cat. no.: Ee 2893 8˚) by Paul Siefert, a composer and long-time organist at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Gdańsk, is stored in the Gdańsk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). Dedicated to King John Casimir (Jan Kazimierz) and published by the author, the collection consists of 15 compositions designed for from 4 to 8 voices, an instrumental ensemble and organ, and a single purely instrumental piece (Canzona a 8). The article discusses only one work from the collection, “Selig ist der gepreisetepitalamium”, composed in 1649 to commemorate the marriage of King John Casimir to Marie Louise Gonzaga. The conclusions resulting from the analysis of the composition were compared with the comments on the earlier works of Siefert found in theoretical considerations by M. Scacchi (“Cribrum musicum”, 1643) and H. Ninius (“Examen Breve”, 1647). It was established that, contrary to what previous researchers believed, “Selig ist der gepreiset” is not an alternative version of the “Epithalamium” published in 1646 and dedicated to King Ladislaus (Władysław) IV.
