abstract in English:	Recently, some scholars have recovered flânerie as a research technique in the field of visual sociology. In this article, by adopting the perspective of the history of ideas, the author reconstructs in chronological sequence and analyzes the factors that have allowed the meeting between sociology, photography, and flânerie. The idea of studying the urban fabric of a city, by wandering without a fixed destination, combing the outlying areas, observing and photographing marginal and abnormal data, and looking for serendipity, is only seemingly trivial. Indeed, it presupposes a deep conceptual and methodological transformation of social science itself.
abstract in other languages:	Recentemente, alcuni studiosi hanno recuperato la flânerie come tecnica di ricerca nell’ambito della sociologia visuale. In questo articolo, adottando la prospettiva della storia delle idee, si ricostruiscono e analizzano in sequenza cronologica i fattori che hanno permesso l’incontro tra sociologia, fotografia e flânerie. L’idea-apparentemente banale - di studiare il tessuto urbano di una metropoli, vagando senza meta prestabilita, setacciando anche le aree periferiche, osservando e fotografando dati marginali e anomali in cerca dell’effetto serendipity, presuppone in realtà una profonda trasformazione concettuale e metodologica della stessa scienza sociale.
