This paper deals with smart home technology that provides a flexible and comfortable
home environment to improve quality of life for residents. At first, smart home technology was used to control environmental systems such as lighting and heating but recently the use of smart technology extended to the discrete-event control. This paper proposes to use Petri Net tools not only to model, simulate, analyze but also to control the smart home applications at the discrete-event level. To illustrate this method the agent-system for Microsoft Lab of Things project is proposed where Petri Net tools are applied to react to events in real environment on-line.
