The article presents the most important motives (transformation, awakening, light) of
media discourse, which was dominated by funeral rhetoric in the days of mourning after the
loss of John Paul II and after the death of president Lech Kaczynski and his delegation,
killed in the plane crash in Smolensk. The comparative analysis of the most important dailies
and weeklies published in April 2005 and five years later served to reconstruct the scheme,
used by journalists who wrote about the death of the noble men.
