Autor analizuje liryk Jamesa Joyce'a pt. Modlitwa w kontekście epifanii jako głównej kategorii estetycznej i filozoficznej w literaturze nowoczesnej. Epifania okazuje sie nagłym i ulotnym wejrzeniem w istotę rzeczy. Epifaniczna wizja wyłania się z asocjacyjnej koincydencji prozaicznych obrazów lub sytuacji. Język dyskursywno-pojęciowy okazuje się niewystarczający, by wyrazić epifaniczne doświadczenie. Tylko mowa poetycka pozwala wyrazić istotę rzeczy. Epifaniczne doświadczenie ostatecznie prowadzi do zachwiania kartezjańskiego modelu tożsamości.
abstract in English:
The author analyzes James Joyce's poem A Prayer in the context of epiphany as the main aesthetical and philosophical category of modern literature. The term 'epiphany' refers to a sudden and fleeting insight into the essence of matter (quidity). Epiphanic vision results from associative coincidence of trivial situations or objects. Casual, everyday language is inappropriate to describe epiphanic experience. Only poetic language gives a possibility to express the essence of matter. Epiphanic experience destroys the awerness of Cartesian subjectivity.
