abstract in Polish:	Pojęcie zdrowia jest powszechnie stosowane w odniesieniu do pojęcia normalności. Jednak dwuznaczność normalności, przynajmniej potencjalnie stwarza pewne nie tylko lingwistyczne problemy. Szczególnie semantyczne napięcie pomiędzy „normalnym" rozumianym jako „właściwy" lub .odpowiedni" z jednej strony, a „przeciętny" lub .typowy" z drugiej jest powodem stawiania zasadniczych pytań. Te dwa różne określenia zdrowia odnoszą się w istocie do całkiem odmiennego rozumienia medycyny, jej celów i zadań w społeczeństwie. Pierwsze wywołuje skojarzenie z .doskonałością" i „perfekcją" i w ten sposób w ostateczności wiąże się z definicją zdrowia WHO jako nie tylko brakiem choroby. To drugie określenie zawęża zakres zainteresowania medycyny głównie do chorób i ich leczenia jako właściwej funkcji interwencji medycznej. Stąd możliwe sprzeczności między tymi dwoma określeniami są odzwierciedleniem o wiele głębszej sprzeczności we współczesnej medycynie.
abstract in English:	The concept of health is in common use associated with the notion of normality. However, ambiguity of the latter notion may at least potentially create certain not merely linguistic problems. In particular, the semantic tension between „normal" comprehended as „just" or „proper" on the one hand, and „average" or „typical" on the other hand, is susceptible to pose essential questions. This two differing types of predicates of health refer, in fact, to quite a different understanding of medicine, its goals and ends in society. The former invokes a connection with „excellence" and „perfection" and thus is, at the last resort, bound to WHO's definition of health as not only the absence of disease. The latter one narrows the scope of medical interest mainly to diseases and its cure as the proper function of medical intervention. Hence possible contradictions between tbese two reflect much deeper contradiction that is present within the body of modern medicine.
