Rozdział trzeci, „Bohaterka nie spojrzy ci w oczy, czyli różnice w ukazywaniu płci”, dotyczyć będzie podstawowych rozbieżności w przedstawianiu męskości i kobiecości w komputerowych grach fabularnych.
The purpose of this paper is to show how the character creation works in the computer role-playing games. The first chapter, "The mask and playing a role," explores the importance of virtual avatar for the player. Seeing player's character as a kind of mask, which is created and adopted for the time of the game, I follow cultural contexts of playing the role. I ask which aspect of character creation are most important for the players and enable them to more accurately getting into character. I draw attention to the subversive character of role-playing, allowing players to put on the mask of the person you could not - or would not - be in the real life. The second chapter, "How is the virtual hero created", describes the ways of functioning character creators in the computer role-playing games. I pay attention to what kind of character customization capabilities they contain, and what contexts associates with this. I also describe how the very act of creating a character is embedded in the game, seeing a tendency to move away from mechanical adjustment of tables and figures for the process, in which the character's qualities and abilities are reflection of the player's behaviour in the game. The third chapter, "The heroine will not look you in the eye, or the differences in gender portraying", will address the fundamental differences in the presentation of masculinity and femininity in computer role-playing games. I show how the dichotomy of masculinity and femininity is expressed at different levels of character creation - from assigning men and women a specific professions in the game world, through graphic design, to the phenomenon of extreme sexualization of female heroines.
