Tematem pracy jest ewolucja wizerunku nordyckiego trickstera Lokiego w Marvel Comics, a także w filmowych adaptacjach komiksów, oraz przybliżenie problematyki związanej z archetypem przechery w różnych mitologiach. Jej celem jest wykazanie, że cechy charakterystyczne dla figury trickstera upodabniają go do bohatera postmodernistycznego, którego tożsamość jest płynna i podlega ciągłym przemianom. Trickster jest figurą ambiwalentną i niejednoznaczną, funkcjonującą na granicy porządku i chaosu. Pytanie, czy istnieje jedna, zwarta definicja trickstera, nurtuje wielu badaczy. Pierwszy rozdział przybliża problematykę związaną z bogatą charakterystyką trickstera oraz pokazuje jego powiązania z herosem kulturowym. Przedstawia również konkretne wcielenia archetypu w mitologiach Afryki, Polinezji, Ameryki Północnej oraz Skandynawii. Kolejna część skupia się na scharakteryzowaniu specyfiki komiksowego medium, zwłaszcza akcentując status supebohatera oraz czarnego charakteru w Marvel Comics. Główną częścią pracy jest analiza zmian, jakie przeszedł wizerunek Lokiego w komiksach. Na początku był on postacią jednoznacznie negatywną, głównym wrogiem superbohatera o imieniu Thor. W wyniku zakończenia w komiksach wątku Zmierzchu Bogów, zmienił się także status Lokiego. Filmowe adaptacje przygód Thora pokazały natomiast zupełnie inny obraz Lokiego, akcentując jego odmienność rasową oraz androgyniczne cechy. Filmowe Uniwersum Marvela wpłynęło na najnowsze komiksy, w których Lokiemu przywrócono skomplikowaną naturę trickstera. Ostatnia część pracy jest wprowadzeniem do tematyki fan studies oraz pokazaniem różnych wariantów recepcji postaci wśród fanów komiksów oraz filmów.

The subject of this thesis is to analyze the image of the Norse trickster god Loki in Marvel Comics and Marvel Cinematic Universe and also investigate the issue of trickster archetype in various mythological systems. The purpose is to exhibit that characteristics of trickster can refer to postmodern hero, whose identity is also fluid and changing. Trickster is, by definition, an ambiguous, liminal figure, which acts on the edge of order and chaos. The question, whether is possible to create coherent definition of this archetype, has been preoccupying the scholars for some time. The first chapter contains the issue of very rich characteristic of trickster and shows its connections with culture hero. It also presents specific embodiment of archetype in African, Polynesian, North American and Scandinavian mythology. The next part of this thesis focuses on comic books and status of the superhero and the villain in this medium. Chapter number 3 depicts the evolution of Loki's image in Marvel comic books. At the beginning he was unambiguously villainous, called 'god of evil', sworn enemy of his brother, thunder god Thor. As a result of abandoning the motif of Ragnarok in the comics, status of Loki has changed. Marvel Cinematic Universe shows the brand new image of Loki, emphesizing his racial and dissimilarity and androgynous characteristics. What is more, movies has a big impact on the latest comic books about Loki, thereby comics bring back the ambivalence of the trickster, and making Loki one of the most popular Marvel character. The last part of this thesis is introduction to issue of fan studies. It also shows the fan's perspective and the ways they depict Loki in their discussions and art.
