Celem niniejszej pracy było udowodnienie, iż nauczanie kultury amerykańskiej powinno być nieodzownym elementem na lekcjach języka angielskiego. Przyjęte hipotezy zweryfikowały się pozytywnie a cel został w dużej mierze osiągnięty.Według moich obserwacji kultura jest czynnikiem warunkującym prawidłową akwizycję języka. Wiedza kulturowa na temat danego kraju, w tym przypadku Stanów Zjednoczonych, umożliwia poprawne zrozumienie odniesień kulturowych i poprawne ich odczytywanie. Ogólnie rzec biorąc kultura wpływa na ludzi i na ich postrzeganie otaczającego ich świata, wpaja pewne wartości, które wielokrotnie są atrybutem danej narodowości. Nauczanie kultury w warunkach szkolnych jest niezwykle ciężkie i wymaga od nauczyciela większego zaangażowania. Ze strony nauczyciela oczekuje się, że przedstawi obcą kulturę w sposób ciekawy a treści zawarte na lekcjach będą interesujące i adekwatne do poziomu nauczania.W swoich autorskich lekcjach posłużyłam się pomocami wizualnym, aby ułatwić nauczanie kultury. Okazało się, że filmy czy obrazki są nieocenionymi materiałami dydaktycznymi. Chociaż filmy często są traktowane marginalnie, podczas moich zajęć stanowiły one trzon lekcji. Często na podstawie filmów były wprowadzane nowe pojęcia bądź nieznane dotąd tradycje. Uczniowie w warunkach szkolnych mieli szanse być świadkiem tych wydarzeń i w pewnym sensie przeżyć je osobiście.Nie tylko filmy uatrakcyjniały moje lekcje autorskie. Z obserwacji wynika, iż gry oparte na rywalizacji potrafią urozmaicić lekcje. Takiego rodzaju gry stosowane w sposób umiarkowany i kontrolowany mają dobroczynny wpływ na akwizycję języka obcego, gdyż dzieci w ten sposób uczą się drugiego języka w sposób naturalny. Ponadto, rodzimi użytkownicy danego języka nabierają umiejętności językowych również poprzez gry i zabawy. Jednak warto zauważyć, że gry powinny być dostosowane do poziomu językowego uczniów i do warunków panujących w klasie tj. od wielkości klasy.Reasumując, cele postawione w niniejszej pracy w większości zostały pozytywnie spełnione. Nauczanie kultury poprzez pomoce wizualne i gry wydaje się być dobrą i skuteczną metodą.

The emphasis of my licentiate project is put on American culture. In the theoretical part it is stressed how important it is in teaching a foreign language, to incorporate a given culture in the classroom. Culture does not only determine the very vocabulary and the very grammar we use but also allows students to acquire a language from a completely different perspective, namely, a native speaker’s perspective. Therefore, students will broaden both their linguistic horizons and socio-cultural knowledge. It contributes to their better understanding of a foreign culture e.g. what drives people to behave or react in a certain way, what are the highest values of a target group and what symbols are commonly used and widespread across the country where a target language is spoken. Students should be acquainted with this idea and, thus, better equipped while travelling abroad. In all probability, students, who will encounter some cultural phenomena in the classroom, will be far better prepared for living abroad when compared to those who will come across them on the spot. In fact some research can be conducted to find out to what extent students, who had extended cultural classes at school can better adapt to the new environment abroad. Research can find answers whether encountering some cultural phenomena in a familiar environment i.e. classroom, reduces anxiety when one is exposed to them abroad. Other research can show how a foreign culture influences the language of learners and whether there is a considerable difference in the vocabulary or the grammatical structure. Furthermore, another point of interest can be motivation to learning a foreign language when students acquire a foreign language along with its culture or how teaching culture to young learners enhances their speaking, reading, listening and writing skills.In my project, I hope, I managed to present the vital role of culture in teaching a foreign language. However, teaching culture was not the only core issue in my project. I put emphasis on using visual aids when introducing a foreign culture in the classroom. The visual aids were based on the authentic videos and pictures. It cannot be denied that thanks to the videos and pictures students could conceptualize some difficult ideas. The visual materials greatly supported my lessons and brought some diversity. Students showed enthusiasm and involvement, which were sustained since videos had always been chosen carefully so as the time spent on watching did not exceeded the time appropriate to this particular age group. Not only videos but also games in teaching a foreign culture were the central part of my project. They prove to be entertaining for my students and combat the boredom during the classes. Judging by my careful observation, I conclude that teachers of all range of subjects should attempt to regularly introduce culture, visual aids and games into the classroom. Perhaps such lessons would diverge from the school syllabus but thanks to them children would adopt a positive attitude towards learning and school. Students may find such lessons so inspiring that they would explore a given topic on their own. Students would learn because they want to, not because they have to. Such informal learning fosters and stimulates the personal development of students. Soon, students would know both which subjects of study stimulate and which stifle their interest. Furthermore, if lessons provided students with a positive stimulus, students would be unlikely to skip classes or behave badly and disruptively during them.
