abstract in Polish:	Niniejsza praca opisuje rolę miasta Gaeta w procesie zjednoczenia Włoch.Praca składa się ze wstępu, 4 rozdziałów i z uwag końcowych.We wstępie krótko opisano miasto, jego położenie geograficzne w obecnym regionie Lazio i specyficzny charakter terytorium, który z jednej strony sprawił, że Gaeta posiada do dziś piękną przyrodę, z drugiej uczynił z niej naturalną fortecę.W pierwszym rozdziale opisano dzieła miasta od starożytności do końca XVIII w., wyróżniając 3 główne okresy: początki i czasy starożytne, kiedy Gaeta była ważnym kurortem dla rzymskich patrycjuszy, a nawet konsulów i cesarzy; okres średniowieczni i czasy nowożytne, kiedy przeważył charakter militarny cytadeli.W drugim rozdziale skupiłam się nad historią Gaety w XIX w. i jej rolą w trakcie Risorgimento, opisując drogę do Gaety i sam pobyt w mieście trzech władców: Piusa IX (przy tej okazji napisałam również o wcześniejszych papieżach, którzy znaleźli tu schronienie), Leopold II Toskański i Franciszek II Burbon.Trzeci rozdział został poświęcony 18 oblężeniom, którym miasto zostało poddane w swoich dziejach. Chciano podkreślić charakter ważnej twierdzy, który przybrała Gaeta. Bardziej szczegółowo zostało opisane ostatnie oblężenie, które miało miejsce w latach 1860-1861 pod dowództwem gen. Cialdiniego, kluczowe z perspektywy Risorgimento. Czwarty rozdział prezentuje pierwsze chwile miasta tuż po upadku fortecy. W tym miejscu opisuję również nastroje, nie zawsze pozytywne, w południowych Włoszech i w samej Gaecie począwszy od zjednoczenia aż po dnia dzisiejszego.W uwagach końcowych rozważam kwestię świadomości historycznej obecnych mieszkańców miasta. Ostatnią refleksją chcę zachęcić do większej troski o bezcenne dziedzictwo naturalne i historyczne.
abstract in English:	This paper describes the role of the town of Gaeta in the process of the unification of Italy. This thesis consists of an introduction, four chapters and concluding remarks. In the introduction I briefly describe the town, its geographical position in the present region of Lazio and the peculiar nature of the territory, which on the one hand made ​​Gaeta a very beautiful place, on the other made ​​it a natural fortress. The first chapter describes the history of the city from Ancient Times until the end of the Eighteenth century. There have been listed three main periods: the origins and Ancient Times, when Gaeta was an important seaside resort for Roman patricians and even for consuls and emperors, the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, when the characteristics of a military citadel prevailed. In Chapter 2 I focus on the history of Gaeta in the Nineteenth century and on its role during the Risorgimento, describing the arrival and the stay in this town of three monarchs of that time: Pius IX (I also write there about earlier popes who had found refuge in Gaeta), Leopold II of Tuscany and Francis II of Bourbon. The third chapter is devoted to the 18 sieges the city underwent in its history, which remark the importance of this fortress. The last siege, which took place in the years 1860-1861 under the command of General Cialdini, has been described more accurately as it is a key event from the perspective of the Risorgimento. Chapter 4 describes the first moments of the city after the fall of the fortress. In this chapter I also discuss the spirit of the people, not always positive, in southern Italy and in Gaeta from the moment of the unification until today. In the conclusion the issue of the historical consciousness of the present inhabitants of the city is presented. The concluding remarks want to encourage the inhabitants to a greater concern for the priceless natural and historical heritage.
