Przestrzeganie diety bezglutenowej a depresja u osób chorych na celiakię.
celiakia, depresja, dieta bezglutenowa, skala CES-D
coeliac disease, depression, gluten-free diet, CES-D scale
The incidence of disease is estimated from 1: 100 to 1: 300 people. Celiac disease occurs in the Autosomal dominant inheritance pattern and lasts for a lifetime. In this case, a Gluten-free diet plays the role of a crucial treatment of the disease in question. Thanks to its strict application, the patient will be able to significantly improve their health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of depression in people with celiac disease and also to evaluate the relationship between compliance with a gluten-free diet and the prevalence of depression in people with celiac disease. Depression was examined by using the popular CES-D scale. The survey in question, consists of three parts: questions related to the disease, the CES-D scale and the frequency of consumption of the questionnaire. The study involved 150 respondents most of whom belong to the Association of People with Coeliac disease. The results of a survey reported that - 52% of celiac patients who took the questionnaire, also suffer from depression. By looking for the proofs of depression in patients with celiac disease I was able to emphasized the relationship between the time of the diagnosis of celiac disease and the level of depression. People who suffer from the disease for a longer time have a greater awareness of its presence and are more accustomed to the new diet and lifestyle. In the end they are not presenting the symptoms of depression. There was no relationship between the degree of compliance with the diet, or the duration of the gluten-free diet. The frequency of consumption of rich products tryptophan and vitamin was inversely correlated with the number of points on the scale of depression. On the basis of this study the following conclusion has been driven : depressive symptoms are very common in people with celiac disease and gluten-free diet adherence has no connection with the occurrence of depressive symptoms. It was noted that the earlier the patient receives a diagnosis of celiac disease, the less chance he/she has to fall into depression.
