W niniejszej pracy podejmuje się próbę opisu ewolucji mitu Majów przy użyciu technik teorii imagologicznej. W dwóch pierwszych rozdziałach opisane zostały podstawowe narzędzia imagologiczne oraz charakterystyka kulturowa, historyczna i polityczna Majów, co pozwala pogłębic perspektywę imagologiczną. W kolejnych rozdziałach analizowane są dzieła “Hombres de maíz” Miguela Angela Asturiasa, “Me llamo Rigoberta Menchú y así me nació la conciencia” Elizabeth Burgos oraz “Urania” Jean-Marie Gustava Le Clézio. Mimo że wszystkie trzy dzieła prezentują różnorodne wizje mitu Majów, pozwalają jednocześnie naszkicować logiczne związki jeśli chodzi o ewolucję omawianego stereotypu. Co za tym idzie, w niniejszej pracy podejmuje się próbę analizy portretów Indian, które nie są wyłącznie figurami literackimi i konstrukcjami retorycznymi; autorzy wprowadzają wizerunki, które przekształcają się w niezależne byty żyjące poza literaturą, zmieniając naszą rzeczywistość i wpływając na kształt naszego świata, ewoluując bez ingerencji autora.

The aim of this paper is to describe the evolution of the Maya myth. In the first two chapters the basic imagological tools are explained as well as the historical, political, cultural and sociological background of the Maya. The next chapters are devoted to the analysis of three books: ¨Hombres de maíz¨ by Miguel Ángel Asturias, ¨Me llamo Rigoberta Menchú y así me nació la conciencia¨ by Elizabeth Burgos y ¨Urania¨ by Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio. Although all three works offer different visions of the Maya, they still give us an opportunity to establish certain logical relations as for the evolution of the Maya myth. The study aims to analyze the Indians' portraits that are not only the rhetorical concept but become the independent beings that influence our world, change our reality and evolve without the author interference.

En el presente trabajo, a través de las técnicas de la metodología imagológica, intentamos describir la evolución del mito de los mayas. En dos primeros capítulos explicamos las herramientas principales de la imagología y describimos la experiencia cultural, histórica, política y social de los mayas para profundizar la perspectiva imagológica. En los capítulos siguientes analizamos tres obras literarias: ¨Hombres de maíz¨ de Miguel Ángel Asturias, ¨Me llamo Rigoberta Menchú y así me nació la conciencia¨ de Elizabeth Burgos y ¨Urania¨ de Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio. Aunque todas las obras nos ofrecen las visiones diversas de lo maya, a la vez nos permiten establecer las relaciones lógicas en cuanta a la evolución del estereotipo mencionado. En efecto, en este trabajo nos planteamos analizar que los retratos de los indígenas no son sólo las descripciones o las figuras literarias y las construcciones retóricas; los autores introducen ciertas imágenes que viven fuera de los libros, cambian la realidad e influyen en nuestro mundo, volviéndose en los seres independientes que empiezan a evolucionar sin la interferencia de su autor original.
