Praca stanowi próbę porównania broadwayowskich musicali z ich japońskimi adaptacjami stworzonymi przez grupę teatralną Shiki, która została założona przez Asariego Keitę. Porównanie obejmie kwestie strategii adaptacyjnych i translatorycznych użytych przez japońskiego tłumacza, przedstawienia postaci oraz świata musicalu, honoryfikatywności języka japońskiego oraz gier słownych. Każdy z tych aspektów jest rozpatrywany pod względem adekwatności w stosunku do materiału źródłowego. Przykłady przytaczane w niniejszej pracy pochodzą z takich musicali jak Nędznicy, Upiór w operze, Król Lew, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Piękna i Bestia, A Chorus Line oraz Wicked.

This work contains an attempt of comparing Broadway musicals with their Japanese adaptations prepared by Shiki Theatre Company founded by Asari Keita. The comparison covers such aspects as strategies at translation and adaptation used by Japanese translator, depiction of characters and the world around them, Japanese system of honorifics, word plays and puns. Comparison of each of these aspects will mainly focus on the fidelity to the source material. Examples used in this work come from such musicals as Les Miserable, The Phantom of the Opera, Lion King, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Beauty and the Beast, A Chorus Line and Wicked.
