abstract in Polish: | Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie strategii uwodzenia w oświeceniowej powieści Chr. M. Wielanda pt. |
abstract in English: | This MA thesis is aimed at showing the strategies of seduction in the Enlightenment novel by Christopher Martin Wieland titled “Geschichte des Agathon”. The book contains a unique conception of seducing virtue, thus a complex action carried out in order to change the ideology of the seduced person. Seduction of virtue present in the novel is done through numerous interactions with the external world. They can take the form of sensual, rhetorical or aesthetic seduction. The purpose is to induce Agathon, the title hero, to abandon Platonic philosophy in favour of hedonism. The hero, being put to the test, has to choose between rejecting his previous system of thinking or carrying out his apotheosis. The decisions he makes initiate his „creation‟ (Bildung), as he learns where the line between virtue and non-virtue is. The conceptions of „creation‟ as well as „seduction of virtue‟ are shown in this thesis as synonymous, as both of them result in acquiring self-consciousness. |
