abstract in English:	The dissertation undertakes the subject of literary characters who are aware of their own fictionality that are defined by the term "metafictional character". The term combines two meanings of metafiction. One is related to metafictional literature (as described by Patricia Waugh) and the other one refers to the relation between a character and fiction in perspective of epistemology, ontology and anthropology. Beginning with a review of theorethical concepts of cathegory of literary character, the author indicates changes that occured in that field in the literary practice on the threshold of modernity.  Distinctive for modern literature shift in the status of literary protagonist means loss of antropomimetic identity, a character becomes a strictly textual being. As an example, an interpretation of Luigi Pirandello's "Six Characters in Search of an Author" is presented, which is perceived as a modernist source of subsequent, twentieth-century concepts of metafictional character. In Pirandello's drama the transformation of category of literary character and the consequences of these changes for the subject of author is emphasised. What is also mentioned is an antropological aspect of aforementioned process, namely undermining the status of the border between reality and fiction and revealing the fictinality of identity paradigms in general. The main part of the dissertation is devoted to the analysis of two novels by Teodor Parnicki: "Muza dalekich podróży" ("The muse of distant journeys") and "Rozdwojony w sobie" ("Divided in himself"). Novels' contruction, motif of a novel within a novel, concept of literary character and its relation to an empirical person and the author, are examined. The interpretation leads to recognition of the consequences of construction of metafictional character for a revised concept of an authorial subject and anthropological reflection, which means discovery of fictionality of subject, indentity and reality. In the last chapter Parnicki's writing is compared with John Fowless "Mantissa", what reveals many common features in both realizations of the problem of metafictional characters. The parallel entails a question about Parnicki's place in the twientieth century history of literature. The author taking into the account construction of metafictional characters in Parnicki's novel, proposes to place him within the literary postmodenism.
abstract in other languages:	Praca podejmuje temat postaci literackich wyposażonych w świadomość własnej fikcyjności, dla których autor proponuje określenie postać metafikcyjna. Pojęcie to łączy z dwoma zjawiskami: literaturą metafikcyjną (w rozumieniu Patricii Waugh) oraz ze stosunkiem do fikcji jako fenomenu epistemologicznego, ontologicznego i antropologicznego. Wychodząc od przeglądu teoretycznych konceptualizacji kategorii postaci literackiej, autor wskazuje na przemiany, jakie dokonały się w tym zakresie w praktyce literackiej na progu nowoczesności. Zmiana statusu postaci wiąże się z podważeniem jej aspektu antropomimetycznego oraz zaakcentowaniem tekstualnego statusu literackiej persony. Autor wskazuje na modernistyczne źródło analizowanej konstrukcji postaci, podejmując się interpretacji dramatu Luigiego Pirandella „Sześć postaci w poszukiwaniu autora”, stanowiącego model dla późniejszych dwudziestowiecznych realizacji postaci metafikcyjnej. W dramacie włoskiego pisarza autor akcentuje przede wszystkim inscenizację transformacji, jakiej podlega kategoria postaci literackiej, oraz jej konsekwencje dla koncepcji podmiotu autorskiego. Istotny jest także antropologiczny wymiar dokonującego się w dramacie ujawnienia fikcyjności postaci, które podważając granicę między rzeczywistością a fikcją, odsłaniają fikcjonalność modeli tożsamościowych w ogóle. Zasadnicza część pracy poświęcona jest analizie dwóch powieści Teodora Parnickiego: „Muzy dalekich podróży” i „Rozdwojonego w sobie”. Autor analizuje kolejno: konstrukcję komplikującą motyw powieści w powieść, koncepcję postaci literackiej oraz relacji między osobą empiryczną a osobą tekstową, stosunek podmiotu autorskiego do kreowanych postaci, by wreszcie wskazać na dwie zasadnicze konsekwencje konstrukcji postaci metafikcyjnych, związane ze zmianą koncepcji autora (która zostaje skonfrontowana z z dyskusją o „śmierci autora”) oraz refleksją antropologiczną (w rozumieniu Wolfganga Isera), w której dochodzi do odkrycia fikcjonalności podmiotu, tożsamości i rzeczywistości. W ostatniej części pracy pisarstwo Parnickiego zostaje zestawione z powieścią Johna Fowlesa „Mantissa”, ujawniając wiele cech wspólnych z uznawaną za postmodernistyczną realizacją postaci metafikcyjnej. Skłania to do zadania pytania o miejsce Parnickiego na mapie historycznoliterackiej XX wieku. Zdaniem autora, ujęcie analizowanej w powieściach Parnickiego konstrukcji postaci metafikcyjnych pozwala na umieszczenie pisarza w ramach literackiego postmodernizmu.
