Colonial desire belongs to the category of post-colonial studies referring to representations sexually featured which symbolizes consolidation and taking control of earth and its inhabitants. In this type of descriptions one could reach for the gender categories by creating male figures of colonizers and effeminate natives. Colonial desire coexisted among Polish nobility and made itself known in the Ukraine/the so-called Polish Eastern Borderland where its projections were present in Polish literature. The article is an attempt to compare the chosen Ukrainian and Polish narrations from the turn of the 19th and the 20th century. On the one hand I analyze, basing on assumptions of post-colonialism and gender studies, a motive of colonial desire in Kajetan Abgarowicz’s and Stanisław Grudziński’s prose, but on the other hand a motive of sexual abuse of the Ukrainians in the selected Ivan Frank’s works. The latter one, I interpret, as a part of Ukrainian counter-discourse that disparages noble colonialism. The proposed analysis of the noble motive of colonial desire is also an attempt to capture Ukrainian literary identity narrations remaining in the relationship with Polishness, meaning the Other one, towards whom Ukrainians established their cultural independency.
