This article concerns the studies that were undertaken in Italy in the fi fteenth century by three representatives of the Thurzo family: Sigismund, John and Stanislaus. They all came from the Spiš line of the Thurzos, who settled in Krakow. They undertook studies in Padua and Rome. Sigismund Thurzo, who studied in Padua in the years 1489-1493, did not complete his education with a degree. John Thurzo, despite his studies in Padua gained his doctorate in canon law at probably at the University of the Roman Curia in Rome. Similarly, Stanislaus, who spent several years at the University of Padua, gained his degree probably in Rome. All three of them after graduation spent a career in the church reaching high offi ces. Sigismund was, among others, Bishop of Nitra, Transylvania, and finally received the bishopric in Grosswardein (Nagyvárad) (1506-1512). John Thurzo at the end of the fi fteenth century, was Rector of the University of Krakow, later became Bishop of Wrocław (1506-1520). Stanislaus Thurzo was Bishop of Olomouc in the years 1497-1540.
