Abstract in English
The interest in Romanian literature manifested itself in 20th century Poland in only two comprehensive works on this phenomenon. The first was written in the interwar period by the Romanist philologist Emil Biedrzycki and the second was authored in the `70s by the well-known translator Danuta Bieńkowska. Both works were actually popularization essays, driven by general and generalizing approaches, which is why, in the present study, we shall do more than merely analyze the image of Romanian literature as outlined by the authors - although the absence of the names of certain authors and the space designated to others could, in essence, create a fertile field of observation which would be enough to outline a comparative study made on the fringes of the great European literatures. Wh shall also attempt to integrate the two works of literary history into a wider cultural (and, why not, political) context marked by the incompatibility between the premises of a Polish-Romanian closeness - suggested by history and supported by political interests/statements - and the absence of true openness towards the Other.
