abstract in Polish:	Kultura zachodnia ostatnich dziesięcioleci została zdominowana przez media wizualne. Po raz pierwszy w historii mamy do czynienia z sytuacją, w której na taką skalę konsumuje się obrazy. Artykuł stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytania, jaką rolę pełni obraz we współczesnym społeczeństwie i jakie są konsekwencje jego powszechnej dominacji niemal we wszystkich sferach życia. Autorka podejmuje również kwestie związane z nowymi formami ekspresji obrazu, jakie pojawiają się w Internecie, ze szczególnym naciskiem na ikonosferę tego medium.
abstract in English:	Within the last decades, Western culture has become dominated by visual media. For the first time in history we are dealing with a situation where so much emphasis is placed on visual art. This article attempts to answer the question as to what role the image plays in modern society and what are the consequences of its domination in almost all spheres of life. The author also discusses issues related to new forms of image expression, present on the Internet, with a focus of iconsphere.
