dc.abstract.en Th is article concerns the anthropological interpretation of the Ritual of conjuring rain, represented by the research of Saul Bellow, a writer and ethnologist as well (Henderson the Rain King, 1958), and the author analyses an image from the Paleolithic drawings on a rock from the Drakensberg and Kalahari Desert (the man in the antelope mask) to show the ritual of a shaman wearing an animal mask, using specifi c gestures he learned during the process of initiation and perfected in the course of study that takes centre stage here. Perhaps the fi rst actor was a shaman? Th e suggestion of his antique choir origin would be a late repetition of this very process, the beginning of which could be traced back to the Paleolithic Era, to the savannah of the African South where crowds of people escaping the scorching sun of the desert migrated during the period of climatic changes on Earth. Similar to all works on the beginning of culture, this work apparently presents hypotheses and attempts to provide possible solutions. In the area of archaeology of such remote periods of human activity and the anthropology of the primeval world, any certainty is not only impossible but also improper. pl
