Contemporary bagpipe-playing in the Żywiec region as an example of the local cultural heritage. Selected issues

Niniejsza praca omawia fenomen dudziarstwa zarówno pod kątem muzycznym, jak i kulturowym. Ogranicza się jednak do obszaru Żywiecczyzny. Zagadnienie dudziarstwa jest rozpatrywane przez pryzmat kategorii dziedzictwa rozumianego procesualnie, nie przedmiotowo. Dlatego podstawą analizy są procesy przekazu pokoleniowego oraz konwencje, które decydują o zachowaniu i przemianie poszczególnych zjawisk kulturowych. Choć zasadniczy trzon pracy skupia się wokół współczesnego stanu kultury regionu, zawiera także rys historyczny o dudziarstwie w Polsce, a w szczególności na Żywiecczyźnie. Druga część pracy skupia się przede wszystkim na dwóch studiach przypadku i omawia twórczość Kapeli Byrtków oraz Składu Niearchaicznego – przedstawicieli dwóch różnych ogniw łańcucha dziedzictwa. Oprócz konkretnych przykładów muzycznych z nagrań tych obu zespołów, w pracy znajduje się także komentarz dotyczący instytucji kultury oraz wydarzeń festiwalowych, zajmujących się propagowaniem kultury tradycyjnej regionu, w tym także dudziarstwa. Zasadniczym celem wywodów jest natomiast odpowiedź na pytanie o miejsce i funkcję dudziarstwa we współczesnej kulturze regionu żywieckiego z jednoczesną próbą prognozowania przyszłości tego fenomenu.

This masters talks about bagpipes (backpipe-playing) as both a musical and cultural phenomenon. It is limited to Żywiec region. This issue isconsidered by the heritage category uderstood as a process, not an object. Therefore, the basis of the analysis are the processes of the generation transfer and the conventions that determine the maintainment and transformation of cultural phenomena. Although the core of the work focuses on the contemporary state of culture in the region, it also contains a historical outline about bagpipes in Poland, and in the Żywiec region in particular. The second part of the work focuses primarily on two case studies and discusses the work of Kapela Byrtków and Skład Niearchaiczny - representatives of two different links in the heritage chain. n addition to specific musical examples from the recordings of these two bands, the work also includes a commentary on cultural institutions and festival events that promote the traditional culture of the region, including bagpipes. The main purpose of the masters is to answer the question about the place and role of bagpipe in the contemporary culture of the Żywiec region, with a simultaneous attempt to forecast the future of this phenomenon.
