The article focuses on Christian greetings woven in the history of Romance languages in Europe. Most of them are forgotten today or remain largely obsolete due to the decline in Christian practices. Almost all of these phrases entered the Romance languages from Latin making them widely understood and frequently used in many parts of Europe and often remained unchanged for centuries. The greetings can also be divided into various types dependent on contexts: greetings of Biblical (including Semitic) origin, which are still used during the Catholic mass, the angelic greetings of the Annunciation, its continuation in the “Ave Maria” prayer and in the Marian hymns, the Orthodox paschal greeting as well as other daily greetings of Christian origin, which work(ed) a bit like saying hello.
