Chavín de Huántar - a ceremonial centre from an architectural perspective.

W pracy podjęto próbę omówienia położonego w Peru stanowiska Chavín de Huántar z punktu widzenia architektury znajdującej się w centrum ośrodka ceremonialnego. W początkowej części pracy została zarysowana historia badań na stanowisku oraz rozwój kompleksu w okresie jego funkcjonowania, tj. w latach ok. 1200-500 p.n.e. Następnie scharakteryzowane zostały poszczególne struktury architektoniczne wchodzące w skład stanowiska: budowle platformowe, place ceremonialne, galerie a także klatki schodowe, korytarze odwadniające, przejścia i pomniejsze elementy, będące częścią obiektów architektonicznych. Omówione zostały również podstawowe interpretacje i hipotezy dotyczące aktywności religijnej i rytualnej na stanowisku. Treść pracy skupia się na architekturze i związanych z nią zagadnieniach; natomiast różne formy rzeźby, a także inne zabytki archeologiczne powiązane ze stanowiskiem - w tym ceramika czy wyroby metalowe - zostały przedstawione tylko w wybiórczym zakresie, w celu szerszego zarysowania problematyki odnoszącej się do architektury kompleksu oraz jego funkcjonowania.

This thesis attempts to discuss the Chavín de Huántar site, located in Peru, from the point of view of architecture that occupies the ceremonial core of this centre. The initial part of the thesis outlines the history of the research at the site and the development of the complex during its period of activity, between ca. 1200 and 500 BC. Next, the individual architectural structures that make up the site are characterised: platform buildings, ceremonial plazas, galleries as well as staircases, drainage corridors, passageways and smaller elements that are part of the architectural structures. There is also a discussion of basic interpretations and hypotheses regarding religious and ritual activity at the site. The content of the thesis focuses on the architecture and related issues; while the various forms of sculpture, as well as other archaeological artefacts associated with the site - including ceramics or metalwork - are presented only selectively, in order to outline more broadly the issues relating to the architecture of the complex and its functioning.
