Carpological analysis of plant remains at the Tell el Murra site, Egypt.

AbstraktW pracy omówiono wyniki badań archeobotanicznych przeprowadzonych na stanowisku Tell el-Murra, zlokalizowanym we wschodniej części Delty Nilu. Celem analizy było rozpoznanie gatunków roślin znajdowanych w obiektach archeologicznych na osadzie, której istnienie przypada na czasy od okresu predynastycznego do Starego Państwa. Z pośród pozyskanych próbek botanicznych wytypowano trzy, które poddano opracowaniu. Próbki ziemi zostały oczyszczone przy pomocy siania na sucho (2 próbki) oraz flotacji (1 próbka), na sitach o gęstości 0,1 mm oraz 0,5 mm. Wybrany materiał został oznaczony w oparciu o zbiory porównawcze PAN IB w Krakowie oraz literaturę przedmiotu. W rezultacie otrzymano dane botaniczne wraz z kontekstem występującym na badanym obszarze. Zebrane informacje posłużyły do częściowego określenia składu gatunkowego roślin, które wykorzystywali mieszkańcy tellu oraz występowały w ich najbliższym otoczeniu.

AbstractThis paper discusses the results of an archaeobotanical study conducted at the Tell el-Murra site, located in the eastern part of the Nile Delta. The aim of the analysis was to identify plant species found in archaeological objects at the settlement, which dates from the Predynastic to the Old Kingdom period. From among the botanical samples obtained, three were selected and processed. The soil samples were cleaned by dry sieving (2 samples) and flotation (1 sample), on sieves of 0.1 mm and 0.5 mm density. The selected material was determined based on the comparative collections of the Polish Academy of Sciences IB in Krakow and the literature. As a result, botanical data were obtained along with the context occurring in the study area. The collected information was used to partially determine the species composition of plants that were used by tell inhabitants and occurred in their immediate vicinity.
